Barbie Purse Cake

I just love getting cake requests that let me do whatever I want!  I have been wanting to do a purse cake for a long time and finally got the opportunity to.  =)

The cake was a little bit challenging, but it worked out.  I actually prayed over it before laying the fondant on.  It was late at night and I wanted it to work the first time...  Praise God, it worked!  I created the flower from fondant after seeing a fabric one in Michael's that day.  Thought to myself, 'hey I can do that in fondant!'  So I did. =)  I like the way it turned out.

The Barbie silhouette was a last minute addition.  I knew I wanted something in the bottom corner, but couldn't think of anything.  All of a sudden after staring at the cake for a while, it came to me, so I printed a little picture, cut it out and put it on the rolled out fondant.  I then took my new purchase, a teeny tiny exacto knife, that swivels, and cut it out.  Fun!  I wanted to include her name somehow, so I used my food safe marker and wrote it on the back.

Inside was white cake with fresh raspberries 'n cream, then covered in buttercream and fondant.

Nadia loved her purse cake!

Pirate Ship Cake - Arrrgh!

So a couple weeks ago, I sat down with a cutie patootie and looked through pictures on the internet for the perfect pirate ship cake.  We came across a picture on Studio Cake and he wanted it exactly like it.  I hated 'copying' it, but the birthday boy was kinda persistent...  I hope I did it justice.  I know Hunter was super pleased with it, so... mission accomplished. =)

The cake was chocolate cake covered with chocolate peanut butter buttercream and filled with Reese's Peanut Butter Cups.  YUM.
I covered the cake in fondant and used melting chocolate for the banister, ladder and wheel. All the characters are sculpted from fondant and the sails are made from dowel rods and fabric.
In addition, I'm so thankful for his mom, my dear friend, Rebecca, for taking my pictures.

Thanks for looking!

Big weekend coming up...

I'm so excited about this weekend!  I have 2 cakes planned.  One for a dear friend, her son, Hunter is turning 5 and he wants a Pirate Ship cake!  The cutie told me all the details he wants, so we'll see if I can meet his expectations!  Then next, is a fun cake for a little girl who's turning 4!
Then Monday, I get to meet with a Bride and Groom to talk about their wedding plans!
